So many weddings happening this month. The auspicious( according to the Chinese) date of 8.08.08 will surely see a lot of couples walking down the aisle. As it happens, some Malays also like to get into the action by making this date their special one.
My friend Nilawati Isha(Dr.) is one of them.I am to go down to her hometown of Ipoh to witness the happy occasion. I am very much looking forward to it, as she is the last of the Yorkers' to be wed.
Yorkers' is the name given to the group of girls in my class (including yours truly) who lived in a house in York Road, Rathmines, in County Dublin, ROI( Republic of Ireland). All of the other girls, ( 5 in all) have been married, the first being 7 years ago. We have gone through a lot together in those years studying, supporting, holidaying, etc.... Now, believe it or not we are mommies...quite funny to think of a time when were not.
Here's to a good one..Many happy wishes to your wedded bliss , Lawa!

down and out..
I have a flu. It has been ongoing, believe it or not, for the last 3 weeks. I have patiently waited for my immune system to kick in and relieve my misery, but so far it seems like i'm fighting a losing battle. I am succumbing to the lure of the ANTIBIOTICS...
As you know, most conscientious gp's nowadays should really make an effort to not give every tom , dick and harry a course of antibiotics just with a presentation of mild fever and flu-like symptoms. This is to prevent the over- usage of our precious antibiotics without which we would be in serious trouble if we were to develop a truly bad infection and be stuck with the superbugs ( the antibiotic resistant ones...that is) So...there in lies the dilemma of the gp's ...to give or not to give? Most people expect some kind of tablet to be given for their trouble, and the gp thus obliges with the ubiquitous panadol and flu ubats. Some also automatically subscribe a course of antibiotics. But then the people themselves cause trouble by not finishing the course of antibiotics given...( That's why on most antibiotic packages there is a label to REMIND people to finish the course)
The reason again is simple...to stop development of resistant strains..So please people just do your community a huge favour and finish up those tabs..
As for me...time to head to the Pharmacy to get some....I concede!!!

the terrible question
Why???
Sometimes we just do not want to answer this question because....maybe we can't, maybe we don't want to..maybe we don't know. I sit here, thinking of the news I read the other day about how a father killed his 3 and 1 year old kids and then hung himself...What in the world??? WHY? How is it possible for a parent to kill his or her own flesh and blood. It is not only heinous, but mind boggling. Even our natural instincts is to protect our young, so how can people do the very extreme opposite? My only answer( if there could ever be any) is that the person must have been deranged. Flat out of his mind and no longer thinking rationally. But the worst possible thing must have to assign the blame on his wife by leaving a note saying he had to do it out of domestic troubles. Even to the end he refused to see his part in it.
I am married. Maybe not for a whole long while ( 4 years) but I do have kids and I do have husband who, shall I put it mildly, at one time or the other has had altercations with me. I know how it can get...Although I hasten to add , I do not know the background of this particular couple in the news piece, only that they were estranged. The children were living with his wife at the in laws house. He had picked them up, brought them to his house before committing the horrible acts of putting weedkiller in their milk and then hanging himself.
What could have been going through his mind as he went through these motions? Was it the possibility that his wife would no longer let him see his kids? Was it why he did what he did? In moments were we are feeling emotionally hijacked ( to borrow a term from Goleman) maybe he just didn't see any other way of dealing with the situation. I feel sorrow for the kids, the family, and the man himself for having condemned himself and his kids to such a fate. Maybe the lesson to be learned here is that in moments of crisis, remember to reach out for help. You are not as alone as you think.

my (other)first time
hi..My name is Farah Kamal. I'm from Malaysia.
this is my other first time in trying to blog.
Previously ,unsuccessful....
Due to lack of commitment. Something I'm sure we all struggle with everyday.
Well, at least I'm trying. Like Shia said in Wanted...what the f**k did YOU do today? ( I do not normally swear..but you have to admit...IT WAS EFFECTIVE!)
So..topics that interest me.Family,politics,work...not necessarily in that order.
Specifically...who the heck our next PM gonna be. The possibilities seem to increase as days go by. What Faizal Tehrani said quite inspired me...why DO we have to rely only on the current political old-timers...what about some fresh blood? Maybe it's time for something and someone totally new.
Then, all the 'polite' backstabbing. Just say what you really want already...as if people are too stupid to read between the lines!
Well...that's my first entry. Hope it's ....(fill in the blank)
